The facility is borne as a result of lots of different ideas and brain storming sessions by various members of staff which included Ingrid’s flapping and Peter’s ‘who, what, when’ triangles. Eventually, it all finally came together and a home was made for the virtual reception.
So what you may ask exactly is the virtual reception at Courier Logistics? It is a project which quickly became Daniel’s pride and joy; in fact it is probably more intelligent than he is! Daniel searched high and low for a top of the range high tech computer with touch screen facilities which would look attractive and provide the highest level of service to both customers and visitors. Eventually, early this year, Daniel found what he was looking for which proved to be the right model for the job, a HP All in One Touch Screen PC. Once found, it wasnt going anywhere and Daniel has had his baby bolted to the reception desk!
Now that the receptionist was chosen the next step was to give her a bit of personality, again after searching high and low Daniel chose VMEasy software. VMEasy is the system which makes our receptionist intelligent. If you’ve come to visit a member of staff and have an appointment or are a temporary member of staff, the very nice receptionist will give you a badge for you to wear whilst in the depot, and if you’re lucky and the receptionist likes you she may take your picture to put on your badge. Maybe you’ve come to collect your long awaited parcel, in which case the receptionist will even alert our operations team of your presence.
It became apparent after a bit of head scratching that there was something missing from our virtual reception location and this is where the rest of the IT Department stepped in. Out of the box VMEasy wasn’t much to look at but thanks to Andy’s top notch design skills and Rachael’s negotiations, the virtual reception finally looked like she was at home. But still there was something missing! Cue an idea from our General Manager, Peter North, to install a 47
TV on the wall ready to stream information about the company and our services, with a bit of Sky News thrown in, but definitely no golf or football channels.
We are very proud of the new reception and believe this a very good example of a team effort!
